FOOD SECURITY
At a national level, South Africa is food secure—meaning the country produces enough safe, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food for its people. At a household level, however, South Africa is food insecure—meaning many people do not have sufficient or equal access to nutritious food. High unemployment, generational poverty, and rising food prices all limit access.
Our food security goals include improving access to safe, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food to strengthen children’s nutrition and physical health, and increasing the nutritional value and reliability of meals in the communities where we work.
GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE
Gender-based violence (GBV) disproportionately affects women and girls and remains a profound, widespread challenge in South Africa, touching almost every aspect of life. The Shilton van Wyk Foundation is committed to serving alongside established partners—chosen for their proven work and track records in the GBV field—striving to change the story of GBV in South Africa.
Our GBV goals include ensuring that children, youth, and women affected by gender-based violence are able to thrive through increased access to support, opportunities, and a sense of safety—enabled by stronger organisations equipped with the resources they need.
EDUCATION & SPORT
The Shilton van Wyk Foundation Schools & Sport Initiative is our flagship Education and Sport programme. Inspired by our commitment to holistic youth development, the initiative addresses challenges facing township youth through a tailored programme spanning physical education, nutrition, academic support, life skills, and pathways to youth employment.
Our education and sport goals include helping to develop healthy, active, emotionally resilient, and academically stronger children—while contributing positively to the communities in which they live.
